SALSA accreditation provides great opportunities to gain new customers and expand into new markets

What is SALSA food accreditation?

SALSA accreditation (Small and Local Supplier Approval) is an independent food safety accreditation. A properly conducted SALSA audit is recognised by supermarkets and large organisations as proof that high food safety standards are in place and that a food company is safe to supply. SALSA food accreditation provides businesses with a great opportunity to gain new customers and expand into new markets. SALSA food accreditation is a flexible and less onerous food safety standard than BRC Global (now BRCGS). It is available to small & and micro businesses typically employing 5-50 full-time staff.

How to obtain SALSA Food Accreditation

  • Assemble HACCP (hazard analysis & critical control points) team
  • Devise HACCP plans for each food product or product group
  • Develop comprehensive food safety pre-requisite programmes
  • Arrange food sampling, water sampling and surface swabbing
  • Carry out a gap analysis against the latest SALSA Food Standard
  • Introduce additional controls if required
  • Fully implement your food safety management system
  • Join SALSA and book a SALSA auditor to determine approval
  • If SALSA audit successful, SALSA certification is awarded

Your Food Safety Responsibilities – UK GOV

How we can help you

We mentor food manufacturers and central production kitchens to achieve SALSA food accreditation. We meet with you to gather information to better understand your operation and priorities, and carry out a gap analysis against the latest SALSA Food Standard. An action plan is provided detailing what you need to do to gain SALSA food accreditation. If required, we train your HACCP teams in HACCP principles, devise your HACCP plans and food safety pre-requisite programmes, arrange food sampling, water sampling, surface swabbing, shelf-life testing and interpret lab test reports for you. We book and attend the SALSA food audit to assist and once SALSA food certification is obtained, we can visit you regularly to make sure that standards are upheld.
