What is BRC Global Food accreditation?

BRC (British Retail Consortium) Global is an independent food safety accreditation. It is recognised by supermarkets and large organisations as proof that high food safety standards are in place and that a food company is safe to supply.

BRC Global (BRCGS) is renowned internationally and recognised by the GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative). Companies with more than 50 employees or those that wish to export their products may find BRC Global food accreditation to be more suitable than SALSA food accreditation.

How to obtain BRC Global Food Accreditation

  • Assemble HACCP (hazard analysis & critical control points) team
  • Devise HACCP plans for each food product or product group
  • Develop comprehensive food safety pre-requisite programmes
  • Arrange food sampling, water sampling and surface swabbing
  • Carry out a gap analysis against the relevant BRCGS
  • Introduce additional controls if required
  • Fully implement your food safety management system
  • Book a BRC Global food auditor to visit and determine approval
  • If BRC Global food audit successful, BRC certification is awarded
